A strategy for the Republicans
Republicans have a problem with the 2022 midterm election. The Democrats have been gaining in the generic poll: at the start of July the Republicans and a 2% advantage, it has dropped to 0.6%, after going negative in September and early October. The GOP needs a way to reverse this.
Republicans have an interesting, but dangerous opportunity. The Democrats have left a lot of opportunities for attack. That sounds great, but there is a problem. Back in 2016, Hillary Clinton had a lot of potential weaknesses, but the shear number of them paradoxically worked to her advantage. When Republicans launched a broad attack on her, the Democrats could respond to the weakest charges, making them the issues. For example, the Clintons took stuff from the White House when they left. Also the death of Vince Foster was sometimes mentioned, even though it was an obvious suicide. This distracted attention from the more serious charges, such as her classified emails.
The Republicans need a way to use the numerous weaknesses of the Democrats without diluting their message. This has been done successfully before.
In 1952, the Democrats had multiple problems. The most obvious one was the war in Korea, which showed no sign of ending. Also, the Federal government had been infiltrated by Soviet spies. President Truman dismissed the problem with one of the worst metaphors in political history: "a red herring" . In addition, there were bribery scandals. Truman fired his Attorney General because of that.
To use all the problems and tie them together, the Republicans used alliteration: Korea, communism, corruption. That presented the problems as a group and prevented the weaker from detracting from the stronger.
This time the Republicans should use alliteration with words starting with 'D', because Democrat also starts with 'D', tying them more closely to the problems, and because there are a lot of negative words in the English language that start with 'D'.
Here are some examples:
1. Abortion.
The Democrats voted 219 - 1 to legalize abortion nation-wide up to 25 weeks for any reason HB8296 Sec. 4 a (8), and beyond that for reasons of health Sec. 4 a (9). Although a majority of Americans oppose an absolute ban, the majority favors setting the limit at 13 weeks. This leaves an opening. Here is a way of using it.
Use the most advanced ultra sound images of a baby at 25 weeks gestation. Then provide a narration: "This is what a baby looks like at 25 weeks. Let's call him Johnny. He has a heartbeat and circulation. Johnny can move, blink, and suck his thumb. He can recognize his mother's voice. The Democrats voted to make it legal to kill Johnny for any reason, or no reason at all. They say it's because he isn't human. It's the Democrats that aren't human."
The Democrats made a mistake by choosing a specific limit for abortion. Republicans should say "thank you" and then have fun exploiting it.
The Democrats are the party of death.
2. Transgender surgery on children.
President Biden's administration demanded that sex change operations (gender affirmation surgery) be available for children. Parental consent varies by state. In Oregon children age 15 can get the surgery without their parent's consent. Children aren't allowed to smoke or buy alcohol even with their parent's consent. The commercial should say: "This surgery is irreversible. The Democrats want to legalize the sexual mutilation of children." The pictures should show children after the surgery.
Gender dysphoria is a mental condition. Treating gender dysphoria with surgery is like treating anorexia nervosa with liposuction. A more relevant example would be body integrity dysphoria where the patient thinks a body part (usually a limb) should be amputated.
If we allow children to change their sex, why not their species? Suppose someone wants to be a Klingon, a Wookie, or a Vulcan? More seriously, should we allow euthanasia for minors? This has already happened in Belgium.
The Democrats are the party of devastation and desolation.
3. Afghanistan.
President Biden was warned by his military officers that he needed to evacuate the Embassy in Kabul. He refused to do so. This caused a chaotic retreat when the Taliban captured Kabul.
On June 26, 2021 former President Trump said: "It's a shame. 21 years, by a government that wouldn't last. The only way they last is if we're there."
But in a July 8 press conference President Biden said that a Taliban takeover of Afghanistan is not inevitable, "Q Is a Taliban takeover of Afghanistan now inevitable? THE PRESIDENT: No, it is not."
On August 14, the National Security Council finally started preparing for a withdrawal of civilians from Kabul.
On August 15, the Taliban entered Kabul, the embassy was hurriedly evacuated by helicopter.
The Democrats are the party of debacle.
4. IRS agents.
In the Inflation Reduction Act, Biden got $45 billion (pg. 33 line 9) for 87,000 additional IRS employees. Janet Yellen, the Secretary of Treasury, (which oversees the IRS) wrote a letter directing the IRS not to increase the share of audits of people with incomes under $400,000. This was misleading because even if the share remained the same, increasing the number of auditors would increase the absolute number of audit of people below $400,000. When the Republican Mike Crappo in the Senate offered an amendment to prevent that, it was defeated on a party line vote. The commercial could show the letter making that promise, then a voice over saying "every single Democrat voted against it".
The commercial could close with a clip of Lois Lerner pleading the Fifth Amendment.
The Democrats are the party of deceit.
5. Trangender restrooms.
In Loudoun County, Virginia, on May 28, 2021, a transgender boy to girl entered the girls restroom and raped one of the real girls. When the father of the girl (Scott Smith) complained to the school board, he was arrested. Biden is demanding that transgenders be allowed to use the rest room of their choice. The commercial should show the father and a clip of Biden making that demand.
The Democrats are the party of danger.
6. Border control.
Biden described the border crisis: "It's way down now; we've now gotten control" in an interview on "Today".
His Vice President, Kamala Harris said the border is secure. In Trump's last year in office (February 2020 through January 2021) illegal crossings per month ranged from 17,106 through 78,414. Since Biden took office, the numbers have ranged from 101,099 (for February 2021) through 241,136.
The Democrats want illegal immigration because it brings in more new Democrats than Republicans. A lot of Democrats don't even try to hide it.
There are lots of clips that could be used for this commercial.
The Democrats are the party of deception and deluge.
7. Federal spending.
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act appropriated $371.5 billion for infrastructure. Most of the money will be wasted. The Washington Monthly had a list of Federal construction projects that cost several times what they should have.
A more recent example was the replacement of part of the Bay Bridge in San Francisco. "the new eastern section opened September 2, 2013, at a reported cost of over $6.5 billion; the original estimate of $250 million was for a seismic retrofit of the existing span."
We expect government projects to cost more than they should, but only about 10% to 20%. Here about 80% or 90% of the money is being wasted.
The Washington Monthly article concluded: "The inability of federally backed projects to be reasonably priced and on time discredits government." Truer words were never written. Republicans should take advantage of that.
The Democrats are the party of dissipation.
8. Fossil fuels.
Biden has stated that he intends to reduce production of oil, gas, and coal. This caused the spike in gasoline prices. Although the trigger was the war in Ukraine, the restrictions on fossil fuels made us especially vulnerable. This led to Biden asking Venezuela and Saudi Arabia to increase their production, because he didn't want to increase ours. During the Covid pandemic, driving dropped dramatically, causing a major drop in oil prices. That would have been the perfect time to top off our strategic oil reserves, because it would have cost so little. The Senate Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer, opposed it as "$3 billion bailout for big oil. If we had done that, gas prices would not have risen so high and the Federal government would have made a big profit. The restrictions on fossil fuels are crippling our economic growth.
The Biden Administration favors high gas prices because it helps to move people to electric cars. Pete Buttigieg said: "The more pain that we are all experiencing from the high price of gas, THE more benefit there is for those who can access electric vehicles."
Democrats (such as Mr. Buttigieg) favor such steps to reduce greenhouse gases. They argue that otherwise a catastrophe will happen. Past performance doesn't support that conclusion. Back in 2006, Al Gore said: "unless drastic measures to reduce greenhouse gases are taken within the next 10 years, the world will reach a point of no return". It didn't happen. Typical alarmist exaggeration.
It didn't have to be that way. Back in 2018, under President Trump, the U.S. became a net energy exporter.
The Democrats are the party of decline and destitution. They want to return us to the dark ages.
It's important not to claim that global warming isn't happening. That claim can't be defended. Instead, argue that it has been exaggerated. That claim has the advantage of being true.
9. Washington DC.
The House Democrats voted unanimously to admit Washington DC as a State , despite the fact that the Constitution expressly forbids it and a proposed Constitutional amendment to do that was overwhelmingly defeated. A majority of the American voters oppose the idea. The Washington City Council supports allowing illegal aliens to vote. A committee for Washington DC Mayor recommended renaming or removing the Washington Monument. A CGI of the Washington Monument being blown up could be inserted here.
The Democrats are the party of desecration.
10. Covid.
At the start of the pandemic, Dr. Anthony Fauci said that N-95 masks weren't necessary. He later admitted he had lied, because he wanted to save those masks for hospital workers.
During the Black Lives Matter protests, Dr. Fauci warned against the demonstrations, because they could spread the virus. Other health care professionals also warned against it. However, many health professionals (most likely Democrats) supported those demonstrations.
The Democrats are the party of disease.
11. School text books.
The text books used in the public schools are frequently pornographic. They are so extreme that they can't be shown on television.
The Democrats are the party of degradation and dissolution.
12. Transgender sports.
The democrats, including Joe Biden, say that transgender athletes must be allowed to compete with the sex they choose.
His Supreme Court nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson, couldn't define the word "woman".
This recalls George Orwell's comment: There are some ideas so absurd that only an intellectual could believe them.
The Democrats are the party of delusion and denial.
13. Crime.
Democratic District Attorneys have been reluctant to prosecute criminals. This has resulted in increased crime is places like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
The Democrats are the party of destruction, damage, and disorder.
14. Fascism.
Joe Biden condemned Republicans as semi Fascist. Is that true? We should consult the original Fascist, Benito Mussolini. He defined totalitarianism as: "Everything in the state, nothing against the state, nothing outside the state." The Democrats have been extending the reach of the state through increased spending (the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Anti-inflation Act) and increased regulation (especially of oil and gas).
In addition to extending the general powers of the government, the Democrats have also been supporting concentrating power in the hands of the President through emergency powers. This is getting close to true fascism. It's interesting to speculate how the Democrats would have reacted if President Trump has claimed emergency powers.
The Democrats are the party of despotism.
15. Racism.
Democrats insist on dividing people into racial categories. They want schools and companies to treat people on the basis of their race. This is the opposite of Martin Luther King's idea that people should "not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
The Democrats are the party of division.
16. Student loans.
President Biden forgave $10,000 - $20,000 of student debt at a cost of almost half a trillion dollars. That works out to over $1,000 for every man, woman, and child in America, or $2,500 per taxpayer. Since the beneficiaries will be mostly college graduates, this will mainly benefit the upper middle class. This is a massive transfer of wealth from the working class to the upper middle class.
This has happened before. In 2014 President Obama wanted to restrict section 529 accounts that provide a tax sheltered way of saving for college. It almost exclusively benefited the upper middle class. He backed down in the face of organized resistance.
This isn't the only example of class favoritism. Democrats almost always favor more immigration, which increases competition at the bottom of the wage scale. But they are more skeptical of H1-B, which brings in high skill workers from abroad. Bernie Sanders is an outspoken critic of H1-B.
The upper middle class controls the government and runs it for their benefit.
Democrats protect the upper middle class at the expense of the working class.
The Democrats are the party of discrimination.
The Democratic party is demonic, composed of devils: evil and vile.
Additional points.
The best debates would be Nancy Pelosi vs. Kevin McCarthy, and Donald Trump vs. Joe Biden. After the debate between John Fetterman and Mehmet Oz, they would be unlikely to accept.
When this program is used, the Democrats will be disappointed. Then they will be dismayed. Then they will be demoralized. Then they will be dejected. Then they will be disillusioned. Then they will be depressed. Then they will get desperate. Let's make sure they are defeated.
Each commercial should end with: "Please talk about this with your family, friends, and neighbors."
You could add: "You could have a party filling out your ballots together."
Also: "If you have already voted for Democrats, be sure to inform election officials that you want to change your vote." This is important because in the 2020 Presidential primary in Arizona, nearly a quarter of the votes went to non-existent candidates.
The point is that if early voters are not allowed to change their votes, an election is illegitimate.
